I don’t think their new brand and new direction should be compared to the old – especially not when there were only two old variations — but I will say that even then, the results of comparing them is what make this exercise satisfying and, frankly, impressive. In the end, there is no saving this logo, just rotating it, which is not a terrible or uncommon process — ask Xerox, Adobe, or even PayPal. It’s the changes to the logo that are interesting, though, it’s been 11 years since the last major redesign and that was probably to evolve the logo, not do the lion stalks.
